How does Ultra Pearls work?
Each Ultra Pearl in our bag is multi porous
and super absorbent. Upon contact with liquid of any kind, the Ultra
Pearls begin to immediately absorb the moisture into the pearls.
The moisture and related odor are locked in leaving the outer layer
of the pearls dry to the touch. The liquid moisture is then evaporated
off, allowing the Ultra Pearls to absorb over and over again. Back
to the top.
Does it clump or gel?
NO! The Ultra Pearls stay dry. They do not
clump, do not dissolve, do not turn to a gel, nor do they change
size or shape. With that, you are not scooping out heavy clumps
of liquid waste daily. Back to the top.
What about odor?
Odor is immediately locked inside the Ultra
Pearls and all liquid is totally absorbed. The moisture associated
with urine will be evaporated off of the litter within a couple
of hours of contact. During this process, the odor remains locked
inside the porous channels of the pearls. After a period of approximately
30 days they become full of the solid molecules (odor) and will
require to be changed. Back to the top.
What's this stuff made of?
Silica sand, water and oxygen - 100%. There
are no fillers in this product. You may confuse this type of silica
with crystalline silica - but Don¡¯t! There is no crystalline silica
in this product. We have a patented technology with this type of
cat care and it is nontoxic and 100% safe for pets and people, even
if consumed. This silica has obtained FDA approval. Back to the top.
What happens if it is ingested?
This product is 100% Biologically and Chemically
Inert. What does that mean to you or your pets. There is nothing
in there that will hurt you or your pets. There are absolutely no
chemicals and it will pass through the system. Back
to the top.
How do you dispose of it?
You can either put it in your flower bed, compost
pile, or throw it in the trash. It is completely safe at landfills,
as it decomposes back to its sand form over a period of time. You
will notice that a few of the pearls will be stuck to the solid
waste when scooping and if you prefer, you may flush a few of them
with that solid waste. Back to the top.
What about dust?
There may appear to be a small amount of powder
on the product. This is not a chemical but the result of pearls
rubbing together during shipping. And it is also not silica dust
commonly associated with other litters. The dust will be virtually
nonexistent with this product as you are removing the solid waste
or changing the box. Back to the top.
How much should I use?
THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE to product performance
is perhaps the appropriate fill line. This product does not work
better if more is added, but works less than acceptable if there
is too little in the box. Ultra Pearls should fill to 2" -
3" in the bottom of the cat box and one bag is suitable for
a medium size litter box. Customers can either use 1 1/2 bags for
larger boxes or purchase the economy size bag. Back
to the top.
How does it track?
The size of the Ultra Pearl helps to inhibit
the pearl from becoming lodged in the paws or fur of the cat's feet.
However most cat litter is "Kicked" out of the box when burying
or dragged out when jumping out of the box. The product is lightweight
and may find it's way out of the box and in the box it is a great
cat litter, out of the box it is a bit of a cat toy. Ultra Pearls
certainly tracks less than other litters, but a covered cat box
with a deep nap mat (such as one from Solutia) at all openings will
go a long way to reducing your tracking problem. We will continue
to look at different shapes of the pearls, however at this time
our testing shows that changing the shape affects the products performance.
What about the feces?
The feces must be removed daily, as it does
not disappear. Using our specially designed Calico Cat Litter Scoop
will let the pearls fall back into the box, unlike traditional slotted
spoons. A small amount, perhaps 5-10 beads may adhere to the feces
and will be removed when the feces is removed, but that will not
have a detrimental effect on the month long performance of the litter.
While the feces is in the box, is will generally be buried. When
buried it will dry out quickly as the pearls attempt to remove the
moisture. If resting on top, the Pearls will work to "wick" out
moisture lingering around the feces. Both these two dynamics will
have a terrific effect on controlling the odor associated with the
feces. Back to the top.
What about diarrhea?
The beads will work to dry the wet stool. This
will result in more than the average number of pearls being removed
from the box and the wet stool will dry eventually but have some
residual moisture and should be removed from the box. Back
to the top.
What about cat acceptance?
As with ANY new cat litter it is very important
to introduce it gradually. Cats are not usually excited about constant
litter changes so whenever introducing any new version of cat litter
it is recommended that you incorporate some portion of the old litter
to encourage cat's trial. It may even be best to incorporate some
clumps of waste or used litter from the currently used box. You
may find a 50/50 mix best for the first month. This will have an
affect on the performance of the first month, but should allow Ultra
Pearls to be the sole litter in the box from that point on with
complete cat acceptance. You may also find it helpful to place the
cat in the box after changing to pearls and comfort them into trying
the texture and sound. Ultra Pearls may be a bit more crunchy then
clay and be a bit strange at first. We have not experienced cats
refusing to use the product. The Ultra Pearls are completely scent
free, as most cats refuse a litter because of the perfumed smell.

What about silica dust and
Silicosis
DO NOT CONFUSE OUR SILICA CAT LITTER
PRODUCT for CRYSTALLINE SILICA. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. SILICA SAND
HAS NO ADVERSE EFFECTS OR CAUTIONS. Crystalline Silica is an ingredient
commonly found in cements, clays, and clumping type products. This
material, once airborne, shows the ability of causing Silicosis.
This can cause incurable lesions on the lungs and throat rendering
that tissue useless for transferring oxygen. Crystalline Silica
is a naturally occurring element also known as Quartz, and found
in some of the clay litters, however our Ultra Pearls are 100% free
of Crystalline silica. Back to the top.
